WHAT IS SAFE HAVEN?
Safe haven is just that.....a safe place for our kids. Safety is number one for our kids, on and off the field.
How do we do it? First and foremost, it starts with our volunteers. All volunteers, whether they be a youth referee, team parent, referee, coach, or board member undergo a background check by the national AYSO office. Once they are cleared, all volunteers undergo Safe Haven training and Concussion awareness training. This training includes identifying illnesses and common medical conditions such as heat stroke and exhaustion, concussions, abuse of all types (physical, emotional, sexual, verbal, etc.). It also covers things like when we can or cannot have games, safety prevention, equipment. This training is required annually.
Secondly, we establish Kid Zones, identified by placards around our fields on game day, which outline expectations of all people who enter the area. This is STRICTLY enforced. Those who fail to abide by it are asked to leave the playing fields.
